Charles “Chuck” R. Steele, Sr., 94, of Toledo, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Merit House in Toledo, Ohio. Born September 15, 1924, in Bower, West Virginia, he was the son of Burl and Cinderella ( Stout ) Steele. A WWII Navy veteran, he married Evelyn Ewing on May 3, 1946. Chuck retired as a truck driver from the CCC Company for 37 years of service. He then was employed for Parks & Recreation for the City of Toledo for 17 years. He was a faithful member of Heritage Baptist Church. He was a loyal Whitmer Panther football fan and enjoyed attending games until unable to do so.
Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was known as “Paw” to all those who loved him.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Evelyn; children, Sandra (Daniel) Ellis, Burl (Kathy) Steele, Terri Merrick, Charles (Kelly) Steele, Jr; 12 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Steele; grandson, Daniel Ellis, Jr.; Son-in-law, Tom Merrick, Sr.; great grandchildren, Taylor, Jonathan and Pat Merrick and great great grandchild, Eden Ellis.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm, Friday, October 12, 2018, at Heritage Baptist Church, 5542 Lewis Avenue, Toledo, OH 43612, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 13, 2018 .
